Saturday Night Live season 44 episode 14 live stream: Watch online
By Mia Johnson
John Mulaney will return to host Saturday Night Live once again on March 2. He’ll be joined by Thomas Rhett as the musical guest.
This week on Saturday Night Live, it’s time to ask “What’s new John Mulaney?” because the “Salt and Pepper Diner” comedian is back to host the show again this week.
If it feels like we just saw Mulaney on SNL, you’re definitely right. Mulaney appeared on Weekend Update in late January during a segment where he and Pete Davidson shared that they had become close friends.
Given that the two are nearly polar opposites when it comes to comedy, Mulaney seemed like the right kind of guy to keep Davidson cool and collected, especially after his suicide scare around that time. (Honestly, John Mulaney is probably the purest host SNL can find, and I’m sure we’re all thankful that he’s returning.)
Mulaney also hosted just last season, which I suppose makes this a back-to-back win for him. Even though his comedy special Kid Gorgeous blew up on Netflix last year, the memes from that special haven’t died down yet. So it’s safe to say that bringing Mulaney back was a good idea.
As far as Weekend Update predictions go, we’d love to see Ben Stiller return as Michael Cohen to parody his recent testimony this week. Mix in Stiller as Cohen with someone as Rep. Jim Jordan and North Carolina’s Mark Meadows, and we’ve got something going here. Honestly, you could have Jordan and Meadows covering their ears and singing “La, la, la, I’m not listening,” and that’s the whole cold open right there.
If that’s not the focus of the opener, then they’ll definitely have to talk about Trump’s meeting in Vietnam with Kim Jong-un that went… well, it just went. There’ll definitely be some good jokes about that in Weekend Update, so keep your eyes and ears open.
