On February 15, Netflix released the first season of Gerard Way’s The Umbrella Academy. And if you haven’t binged it yet, we have seven reasons why we think you should.

If you are looking for an action-packed superhero series, this is not it. But, if you are looking for a story that gives you superhero moments, mixed in with real emotion and grit, then The Umbrella Academy is ready for you.

Based on the comics written by My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way, The Umbrella Academy is so much more than just the story of a group of superheroes trying to save the world. At its heart, this is a story about a family. And while they may not be related by blood, they are so much more than that. Their connection runs so much deeper because of the way they grew up, the lives they have lived, and of course the father who raised them all.

We break down seven solid reasons why we think The Umbrella Academy should be your next epic binge. (And yes, I definitely chose seven because of how symbolic it is to the show.)

From the fact that it is different from anything Marvel or DC has given us, to the music, you won’t regret getting into this series.
