Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga has been very open about her own battles with anxiety and depression. Not only has she openly spoke about it at award shows, to press, and through her social media posts, her song lyrics can relate to just about anyone when it comes to feeling a little low. She wants people, especially young fans, to know that it’s okay to feel that way sometimes, and that you never have to feel it alone.

For example, here are lyrics from “Born this Way“:

"I’m beautiful in my way ‘Cause God makes no mistakes I’m on the right track, baby I was born this way Don’t hide yourself in regret Just love yourself and you’re set I’m on the right track, baby I was born this way"

I’ve suffered through depression and anxiety my entire life,” she told Billboard in 2015. I still suffer with it every single day. I just want these kids to know that that depth they feel as human beings is normal. We were born that way.”

In October of 2018, Gaga penned an op-ed for The Guardian calling for more resources and awareness surrounding mental health for youths. She writes that stigma and fear behind any mental illness is what’s to blame for a lot of the struggle to find help. She opens it up with, “By the time you finish reading this, at least six people will have killed themselves around the world.”

And that, alone, should be enough to make you want to change the stigma behind this disease that affects so many.
