Doom Patrol season 1 episode 2: How to watch online
Despite all our comic book rereading sessions and preparatory efforts, nothing could prepare us for the Doom Patrol premiere, and we’re thankful because the first episode was a perfect televised introduction to one of the strangest superhero teams.
Unlike Cliff Steele, we aren’t one for obscenities, but even we’d have to admit that the ending of Doom Patrol‘s first episode, “Pilot,” left us in a perpetual state of WTF; and we’re glad that’s developing to be the overarching theme of this season (and the entire series). Granted, Cloverton, Ohio doesn’t feel the same about the oddities lurking after Niles Caulder and his team. We can’t blame them because a giant glowing sinkhole did open up in the middle of their town at the end of the series premiere; however, the Doom Patrol team isn’t done banding together, which is probably for the best because they’ll need all the non-Justice League affiliated heroes they can get.
Beyond the memorable entrance into the comic book television series scene, the team is marking its impression on Cloverton. Well, at least a new archnemesis of the team is. The first episode gave us a lot of memorable moments that don’t even scratch the peculiar potential of the namesake team, looking back, one of the most remarkable scenes in the first episode is still the opening credits.
While the first episode gave us some nostalgic comic book parallels, especially with Crazy Jane’s painting scene and Cliff and Jane’s impending friendship, Doom Patrol is adjusting one comic component for its televised audience: the actual team. We’ve already met the key members from Garfield in the weird team’s titular episode on Titans, as well as Cliff, Jane, Rita, Larry, and Niles. However, the second episode will incorporate Victor Stone (i.e. Cyborg, portrayed by Joivan Wade) into the series on the on-screen Doom Patrol lore.
Thanks to DC Universe, we have a synopsis that starts to prepare you for this week’s episodic adventure, “Donkey Patrol,” on Doom Patrol:
"Following Mr. Nobody’s capture of Niles Caulder and the destruction of Cloverton, Ohio, The Doom Patrol investigate the mysterious albino donkey and discover it is a door to another universe, one where Mr. Nobody is in control. Cyborg aka Vic Stone (series star JOIVAN WADE), a part man/part machine hero from Detroit who has his own complicated relationship with Niles Caulder, joins the search."
Seeing Vic on the Doom Patrol lineup is a different venue from his canon leadership position with the Teen Titans (particularly with the 2003 run) and the Justice League teams. Although Vic is a bit of a wild card in an already wild series and team, we’re happy to see the new Doom Patrol recruit in Doom Patrol “Donkey Patrol.” Judging the title of the episode, the group is obviously testing out some names for the team.
