How to Get Away with Murder knows that a conflict is coming, but won’t quite tell viewers where the lines have been drawn just yet.

Happy new year, How to Get Away with Murder. At least, we think that’s about where this week’s episode is going to pick up. Last week’s episode focused on holiday celebrations among all of the different characters, so why not bring in a new year in the second-to-last episode and signal that changes are coming?

We fully expect the show to end on something mysterious for this season as well, so if there’s not a countdown this week, expect it in next week, possibly with the FBI breaking in or Agent Telesco choosing to go rogue and confront Annalise directly as the ball drops. But enough of predictions; let’s talk about what we do know is coming.

The synopsis comes to us this week from TVGuide, and is rather short, as is befitting a penultimate episode:

"Annalise is determined to get to the truth about Nate Sr.’s murder and will stop at nothing until she does."

Right now, the case is still pretty open as to who had Nate Sr. murdered and why, but with last week’s episode ending on Annalise meeting with Governor Birkhead once again, we suspect that Viola Davis and Laura Innes will be sharing quite a bit of screen time in this week’s episode. If Annalise views this as her last chance to extract any information from Birkhead, no matter how tense things may be, expect her to go all out. That interpretation is supported by “will stop at nothing” appearing in the synopsis.

What’s notable is that no one else comes up in this synopsis. While the episode may not be an extended dialogue between the two characters, we wouldn’t be surprised if there really isn’t much for most of the other characters. When you hire an actress like Innes, you almost have to give her a lot of scenes to work with, right?
