Dirty Dancing – Baby and Johnny

I thought Moonlight might be too sad of a note to end on, so why not go out on a high note with another one of the greatest romances in cinema history? Dirty Dancing popularized the song “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” and probably encouraged generations of young people to learn to dance, or at least to attempt (and fail) to do the famous lift that Johnny and Baby master.

As you probably already know, Baby fills in as Johnny’s dancing partner in secret while she’s on summer vacation at a fancy resort with her family. His partner, Penny, is pregnant and needs an abortion, so Baby gets the money from her father to help Penny, but doesn’t say why.

After Johnny and Baby have their first successful performance together, they get back just to find out that the doctor who did the abortion was a scammer, and the procedure went terribly wrong. Baby rushes to get her father (who’s a doctor) to help Penny out, and though he’s angry that this is what his money was used for, he agrees to help her. He blames Johnny for the mess, and forbids Baby from seeing him again.

Of course Baby doesn’t listen, and later that night she goes to Johnny’s room to apologize about her father, but Johnny feels like the terrible treatment is warranted because he’s just a nobody. The two have a moment, and Baby reveals that she has feelings for him. After staying silent for a bit, she asks him to dance, then they embrace, and one thing leads to another.
