As is the norm with Dolly Parton, there is a lot happening here, and yet we have to applaud the commitment to red in all its forms. The oddly pink trim is giving us fits, but other than that, she’s here, she’s Dolly, and she got a tribute during the ceremony. How many women can say that?

The jeweled collar with the strap is completely too much, but it adds a weight to the look and helps the other jewels look like they’re a coordinated effort instead of just thrown on.

Also, Dolly’s old-school enough to wear pantyhose on the carpet.

To return to the theme of “volume in weird places” for the ladies, here’s this year’s Album of the Year winner. The sleek hair really doesn’t work with this dress. Also, it looks like she has absolutely no support, and yours truly is wincing in sympathy. There seems to have been some tape involved somewhere.

It’s very safe and pretty — almost dreamy — and the fan effect actually evokes the cover of her album, Golden Hour. That was also probably planned.

Congrats on your wins! Next time, don’t wear a big red bow on the back of your dress, please.
