Fran and Mr. Sheffield – The Nanny

What you need to know: Fran Drescher is a national treasure, but you probably already know that. But her role as Fran Fine, who pines after her employer, the icy Mr. Sheffield, is one of the seminal feminist roles of our time.

Drescher plays Nanny Fine, a fish out of water who stumbles into a job at a bougie drama producer’s house taking care of his three children. Mr. Sheffield (Charles Shaughnessy) is handsome and dapper, but wildly unavailable, so naturally, Fran falls head over heels for him. It takes him a little longer to come around, and of course, hilarity ensues in the meantime.

Why we ‘ship them so hard: For one, Fran is a total heart-eyed emoji, and her crush is completely relatable. We get to watch her be a complete and awkward mess as her feelings get more and more intense. Let’s just admit it to ourselves: we’ve all been Fran.

Second, we know Mr. Sheffield secretly starts to love Fran too, but he just can’t admit it. This is super endearing and frustrating, and we screamed ourselves hoarse rooting for him to wake up. We always knew they belonged to each other; it just took them a little while longer to get on board.

They are perfect for each other, but the fun comes in watching them circle around each other for so long. When they finally did get together, we loved it even more because all those years of built-up sexual tensions finally found a release — and twins ensued.

How to watch it all unfold: The Nanny is currently streaming on Pluto TV for free.

Beyond that, you can purchase the complete series on Amazon, but you’ll probably have to invest in a DVD player as well. TV Land plays old episodes, so check those local listings to watch the nanny and Mr. Sheffield fall in love. Come for the romance, but stay for the catchy theme song and incredibly hot fashions.
