Sookie and Eric – True Blood
What you need to know: Everyone thinks that Vampire Bill is Sookie’s OTP, but I’m here to tell you. They are dead wrong. (Hee hee, see what I did there?) Not only does Eric Northman out-vampire Bill a hundred times over, he’s also six and half feet of Nordic dreaminess. I mean… there’s just no comparison, right?
In terms of compatibility, Eric is arguably the better choice, but Sookie always seems to gravitate back to Bill, despite his penchant for getting brainwashed, kidnapped, overpowered, and downright power-hungry.
Why we ship them so hard: No matter who comes and goes in Sookie’s life, however, Eric always fosters an undying (and preternatural) love for her. She has powers over him unlike anybody else in his life, and he’s a very solitary man. It is brilliant to watch him be enchanted by her, and how he adores her to make his devotion even more acute. Watching him fall so completely in love with her, and then destroy his immortal heart, was torture for Sookie/Eric fans, and that’s why we will always root for this couple, even though we know how it ends.
How to watch it all unfold: Alan Ball made this show for HBO, so it’s available, exclusively, from that network. You can watch it on Hulu, with an HBO Max add-on, if that’s your preferred platform. Be warned if this is your first go around with the series. It gets kind of wild after the first few seasons, and you’ll quickly understand why I find Bill so insufferable.
