What you need to know: The show may have Dawson Leery’s name built right in, but he is never the frontrunner when it comes to winning Joey’s heart. Joey may think she likes Dawson, and she nurses that crush for a really long time.
However, it takes actually getting into a relationship with him for her to realize her real match is the troublemaker, Pacey Whitter. He’s far more handsome and clever than Dawson, and he looks at Joey like it’s the last time he’s ever going to see her, every time.
Why we ‘ship them so hard: Watching baby Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson figure out how to be in love is just downright soul food. This may be arguable, but he might just be the most romantic boyfriend ever. He’s thoughtful and supportive, and he gives her all the things a young woman needs from her high school boyfriend. I want this fictional, teenage character to be my real-life, grown-up boyfriend.
How to watch it all unfold: Both Hulu and Netflix have all the episodes, but that first season can get a bit tedious. If you really want to get the best of the best, just watch the series finale, in which the show skips ahead 5 years and we see Joey and Pacey comfortable in their domestic lives, as cute as ever. But beware, this is also the episode in which Jen dies, so it’s heartbreakingly sad.
