Kevin and Winnie – The Wonder Years

What you need to know: Kevin and Winnie are adolescent neighbors on the nostalgia-fueled show The Wonder Years. Kevin long loves the girl next door, and Winnie takes a little longer to come around to him.

The series is a coming of age show that pushed the boundaries of what a sitcom could be, and the relationship — whether it’s platonic or otherwise — is the infrastructure that held it together. They literally and figuratively grew up together, and brought audiences along with them the whole way.

Why we ‘ship them so hard: Nothing is as intense as our first crushes. Looking back, we might be a little embarrassed about how intense we got over a person whose name might escape us. But at the time, when we’re in the hormonal throes of first love, it is the most important thing to us. The stakes are so high that nothing will ever be as big as those feelings.

This is the draw for Kevin and Winnie. The Wonder Years just gets it, and it made us relive those feelings all over again, without judgment or mocking. Kevin and Winnie painfully explore their feelings, and we got to watch from the safety of our couch.

How to watch it all unfold: Kevin and Winnie don’t even wind up together in the end. But after all, who really does end up with their middle school crush? The entire series is on Hulu, but I will warn you: you will develop a serious case of the feels.
