Tony and Angela – Who’s The Boss?
What you need to know: Who’s The Boss is one of the classics of the TV canon. It stars Tony Danza in his seminal role as Tony Micelli, the former baseball player who lands a job as a nanny for the successful ad exec, Angela.
Most of the show focuses on the two families blending, and the subverted gender roles that the show handles progressively and with before-its-time aplomb. It took a long time for the show to bring the two together, and it capitalized on the burgeoning sexual tension between the two leads.
Why we ‘ship them so hard: Their relationship is a long, slow burn, and the most delicious thing about it is that it isn’t the main focus of the show. The long flirtation makes their onscreen presence juicy enough to root for, but not frustrating enough to make us turn the channel.
It was also refreshing to see a male character on TV be so supportive of a woman and her career. Tony and Angela go against the traditional gender stereotypes, creating a whole new conversation about sexual politics on television. The writers didn’t really even give us any closure, leaving us guessing about whether or not they even get married in the end.
How to watch it all unfold: Who’s The Boss? is streaming for free on Crackle. You can also watch a few episodes on YouTube, but it’s just a tease, and you can’t really get a real feel for it.
