Barney and Robin – How I Met Your Mother

What you need to know: Robin is not Ted’s children’s mother, but that’s really the point of it all. Ted winds up with Robin in the end, and it’s a real bummer. Of all the relationships this show takes on, Barney and Robin’s makes the most sense.

Much has been made of the fact that the writers killed off the future mother and put Robin and Ted together in the end. It was a difficult choice to stomach, because fans of the show know that Barney and Robin were so good together.

Why we ‘ship them so hard: As a character, Barney is a garbage human. He’s a misogynist curmudgeon with antiquated ideas about dating, masculinity and women. However, he meets his match in Robin, and she never allows him to be a jerk with her. In fact, Robin changes him for the better (which seems like the usual TV fantasy), forcing him to mature into a loving partner. Why wouldn’t we want this couple to be together after all the work Robin put in?

How to watch it all unfold: The show went on for too many seasons, in my humble opinion, but the seasons that feature Robin and Barney together are the best ones. You can watch all nine on Hulu.
