Learning about countries

We absolutely love how the series continues to be an educational tool by teaching its audience about the different parts of the world. We see it first play out in “The Sticky Rice Caper,” when Carmen and her team embark on a new mission to Indonesia.

What makes it even better is how they incorporate the facts and history into a casual conversation. It’s not a lecture or an encyclopedia entry. It’s young people with curious minds engaged in a friendly discussion.

The reality is we live in a day and age where we have access to unlimited information from the tips of our fingers. Sometimes, it can be an overwhelming process and it can discourage people from learning. Carmen Sandiego, however, encourages people to be more intellectually curious by offering bite-sized morsels of information instead.

Most importantly, it’s modeled in such a way that younger children can learn while the main characters embark on their episodic adventures. If these young characters can learn about the world in new and exciting ways, why can’t they? It sparks the imagination, and we love anything that helps stimulate young minds into being more open-minded.
