The truth about Shadowsan

Shadowsan is a straightforward kind of guy. If he doesn’t like you, he’ll let you know in every possible way. Come to think of it, he’s the Severus Snape type of professor. So for most of Carmen’s life, Shadowsan had a face of disapproval and disappointment toward her. He refused to let her into the Academy, he purposefully made her fail her pickpocketing exam, and he personally took it upon himself to track her down in the final episode of the season.

All of that adds up to one thing, right? Shadowsan hates Carmen Sandiego. Turns out, that’s not the case. Carmen grew up believing Coach Brunt, the teacher who showed her the most compassion, was the one who found her on the side of the road in Argentina. It was, in fact, Shadowsan. And the last thing he wanted was for her to be molded into an evil person. It’s why he refused to accept her into the Academy and why he purposefully failed her.

It’s a mind-blowing revelation that still has us reeling. Shadowsan actually cares about Carmen. He even wanted to escape with her when she fled from the island in Cookie Booker’s red trench coat and hat. Even though that’s what he wanted at the time, he disappears and leaves Carmen alone in the season finale, comforted by the fact that she’s alive and well.

Still, it makes us wonder what’s next for Shadowsan. Will he go back to VILE? Will he watch over Carmen from a distance and offer protection when she needs it most? Whatever happens, we hope this isn’t the last we see of him and Carmen working together.
