“For Your Entertainment” – Adam Lambert

I was about to say we have another Idol winner appearing on the list until I remembered that Adam Lambert came in second place on his season. That goes to show you don’t have to win the competition in order to make it big. Where’s Kris Allen nowadays, anyway?

A decade ago, season 8 of American Idol introduced us to the mega-talented, flamboyant rocker Adam Lambert, who had a big voice and was destined for big things — and some controversy. Though he wowed audiences and the judges on the show, he placed second, but still went on to release his debut album later that year. For Your Entertainment was released in November, with the single of the same name coming out in October.

“For Your Entertainment” was written and produced by — GASP — Dr. Luke, who was inescapable a decade ago, and had a dark disco-electronic vibe to it to match Lambert’s rock-disco glam style. It was sexy and dark, with the video taking place in an underground club, with lots of leather, eyeliner, and grinding.

Speaking of grinding, the singer was bound to spark some controversy with conservative audiences eventually. Adam, who is openly gay, caused a stir when he performed the single at the 2009 American Music Awards. He grinded on his male dancers and, to the horror or conservative parents in the U.S., kissed his male bandmate. It prompted a storm of complaints from the Parents Television Council, and ABC canceled his appearance on Good Morning America. (Homophobia at its finest!)

Luckily that didn’t keep Lambert down for long, and nowadays he’s performing as the frontman for the legendary rock band Queen.
