1. Avengers: Endgame

It’s hard to believe that in Avengers: Endgame, our favorite superheroes as we know them are finally closing their last chapter. After the events of Infinity War, in which Thanos wipes out half of all life in the universe, what’s left of the Avengers will return not triumphant, but rather desperately struggling to right what was wronged.

Of course, between the comic canon and the very existence of Spider-Man: Far From Home, there are a lot of things pointing towards certain outcomes of Avengers: Endgame. However, whether or not Steve Rogers and his ragtag band of heroes manage to undo Thanos’ mass extinction, there are plenty more questions which cannot be answered until April 26.

Like so many of the best superhero movies, the most important thing will not be whether or not the heroes win or lose; it will be what they win or lose on a personal level along the way. The trailer certainly is playing to those themes, revealing very little of the plot in order to focus instead on the emotional toll the characters have suffered since the end of Infinity War. We see Tony adrift in space, leaving a message for Pepper on the verge of his death; we see Steve shedding tears and saying he doesn’t know what he’ll do if their plan doesn’t work. And then, of course, we see Ant-Man being his usual loud and oblivious self, but hey, we all process grief in our own special ways.

Now that Marvel has already killed off so many beloved characters, it will be interesting to see how they will raise the stakes this time. Of course, all the original members of the Avengers team are spared in the Snap; it’s entirely possible that one or more of them will die, permanently, in the finale. But in a sense, that’s what everyone expects to happen, and Marvel is sure to have some other diabolically heart-breaking tricks up its sleeve as we tie up the final chapter in the original Avengers MCU mythos.
