Christmas Eve hours: Is Target open on Christmas Eve?

Target aficionados might need to take some time off from the store over the holidays, but is Christmas Eve one of those days?

Target stores don’t close very often; we’ve come to rely on their being open quite frequently, although usually not 24/7, just in case we need one last time to go through its Spot the Deal sections, pick up last-minute supplies, or so on. However, what about Christmas Eve?

Per the report of Go Banking Rates, Target will actually be open on Christmas Eve. This year, it falls on Monday, so if you need to start your holiday week off right, you’ll have the opportunity from 7 a.m. to 10/11 p.m. local time (Go Banking Rates reports that the closing times will vary).

Notably, this writer has already noticed that holiday decorations have started to go on clearance, although not at quite at the high rates you can expect after Christmas. In other departments, we’d advise not relying on individual Christmas or holiday cards being in stock, as others might have the same idea of getting their cards last-minute and clear them out before you get there. Same thing with toy and other common gift departments, like electronics. However, food sections should likely be well-stocked, just in case you need some ingredients or something to bring to a holiday party.

Other than that, expect potentially long lines, because there’s a little more wiggle room on Christmas Eve than Christmas Day. To counteract those lines, Target does offer services like Drive Up as well as Free Order Pickup.

Whichever way you choose to shop at Target, we also encourage you to be kind, respectful, and understanding to Target employees working on Christmas Eve; they are people too, after all, and the holidays can be stressful even before you add in working on a day like the day before Christmas.
