LONDON, ENGLAND – JUNE 09: Meghan, Duchess of Sussex and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge watch the flypast on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during Trooping The Colour on June 9, 2018 in London, England. The annual ceremony involving over 1400 guardsmen and cavalry, is believed to have first been performed during the reign of King Charles II. The parade marks the official birthday of the Sovereign, even though the Queen’s actual birthday is on April 21st. (Photo by Chris Jackson/Getty Images)

Trooping the Colour off-shoulder dress

In June, the Duchess of Sussex attended her first Trooping the Colour as a member of the royal family. And she even had the opportunity to join the family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. Overall, it was a beautiful day and the newly minted duchess looked stunning.

Meghan wore an off-the-shoulder, short-sleeved, pale-pink dress by Carolina Herrera. The dress featured a midi hemline, as well as three flat buttons down the front, according to People magazine. The Duchess paired the dress with a matching hat courtesy of Philip Treacy.

And while the big buzz of the day was that the duchess had broken royal protocol with her outfit due to the bared shoulders, short sleeves, and even her hemlines, the reality is that no protocols were broken. Instead, it seems that most of the ladies of the royal family choose to have their shoulders covered and wear longer sleeves.

While there are occasions where the dress would not be approved due to dress codes, in this case, the duchess was not going against protocol with her outfit of choice.

Overall, the Duchess of Sussex was radiant at her first Trooping the Colour, and we look forward to seeing her at many more in the future.
