13. Tiny Tim (A Christmas Carol)

Tiny Tim, otherwise known as A Christmas Carol‘s Timothy Cratchit, may be a minor character in the story, but he makes a big impact. In fact, it is partially because of him that Ebenezer Scrooge changes his ways and finds the spirit of Christmas.

Here is a young child who is ill and basically on his deathbed because his family cannot afford the care he needs. In fact, in one vision that Scrooge has of the future, he even sees Tiny Tim’s death by way of his gravestone.

And yet, here is a boy who is still filled with the love of the holidays and the joy of the season. While his family can’t even afford the necessities they need, they are still thankful for all that they do have. They believe in the magic of the holidays and Tiny Tim is the primary reason for this. His ability to be loving and cheerful, even in the face of what seems to be a certain death (at the time), makes him so much more than a cheerful holiday character, he is an inspiration.

And we have to admit, in the end when Scrooge has changed his ways and we see Tim having the kind of Christmas a young boy deserves to have, it just brings a smile to our faces. We think that Tiny Tim is one of our favorite classic characters and even as a minor one in the story, he makes such an impact that he deserves this recognition.
