Spider-Verse and Venom crossover fan art has us thinking about Miles Morales’ cinematic future

After watching Spider-Verse and seeing BossLogic’s fan art, featuring Miles Morales, Venom and Spider-Man, it’s easy to see why we’re thinking about Miles.

After watching and cathartically crying — and no, we aren’t ashamed to admit that — through Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, it’s safe to say we’re ready to protect Miles Morales at any and all costs. While Spider-Verse features an extraordinarily terrifying version of Kingpin, it primarily focuses on Miles’ Spider-Man origin story in the multiverse, in addition to the wholesome and overarching message that anyone can wear the spidey suit. Thanks to BossLogic’s recent Spider-Verse and Venom fanart, we might regret taking on a self-imposed task of theorizing the cinematic team-up — but we’re too deep in our theory journey to quit now.

BossLogic’s arachnid-themed art includes a team up between Miles and Peter Parker against, what we can assume, is a villainous version of Venom. Naturally, it has us contemplating what a hypothetical Spider-Verse sequel with a venomous theme could look like, as well as what a potential Spider-Men and Venom live-action film could look like.

Obviously, all of these speculative theories are just that, hypothetical. However, with the continual spider narratives in Sony and the MCU (respectively), looking into potential ways Miles Morales could fit into the MCU, Venom-related films, and obviously Spider-Verse spinoffs might not be an improbable fan-fantasy — especially considering Miles’ growing positive notoriety within and beyond the Spider-Man fandom.

Miles Morales is finally starting to get the mainstream recognition that he deserves. Along with his cinematic debut in Spider-Verse, he also swung into a new titular comic series, Miles Morales: Spider-Man, earlier this month. Because we’re rightful Miles stans, we’ll gladly accept any media that futures one of our favorite characters to don the Spider-Man suit and alias — with certain conditions, of course. We don’t think our hearts would withstand the death of Miles’ mom in any cinematic form.

Overall though, a Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t an unrealistic aspiration for the Spider-Man fandom…

Miles vs. Venom in the MCU

Given the overlapping character rights between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, and thanks to a helpful infographic by The Geek Twins that illustrates the live-action character rights between the various marvelous film studios, seeing Miles sling into the MCU isn’t impossible.

It will take a while before we could potentially ever see more than one Spider-Man at a time in the MCU, let alone Miles specifically. Nevertheless, Miles Morales’ origin story and proceeding arc could take a more poignant turn if the MCU ever incorporated Miles and Venom into the MCU.

Introducing Miles in the MCU, especially in affiliation with Venom, could open up some traumatic plots regarding him and his family. Though we love Eddie Brock as Venom, he isn’t the only person in comic media history to bond with the symbiote.

Flash Thompson bonded with Venom after he signed up for the second trials of Project: Rebirth. And yes, we are talking about the same Flash at Midtown High School who conjured up a phallic nickname for another cinematic Spider-Man (Peter Parker) within the MCU.

After the events of Civil War II, Miles and Flash’s version of Venom have an unpleasant altercation that leads to the death of Miles’ mother (Venom killed her). Given the MCU isn’t necessarily an opponent to grit and heartbreak, introducing Miles after this family tragedy could be a route the franchise could hypothetically retrofit into future MCU films.

Introducing Miles into the MCU via the “Miles and Venom have always existed in the MCU, but are just becoming the central plot of the franchise,” isn’t a particularly abnormal storyline. When you consider Captain Marvel’s film and the fact she’s been living in the same Avengers-themed universe without visibly being present, it wouldn’t be uncharacteristic for the MCU to name drop or add in Miles, or even Venom, in a future film. However, we’d still personally rather see Miles have a happy family-centric story arch rather than a distressing one.

Since Hydra has been and still could be a recurrent theme in the MCU, a Hydra-controlled Venom agent isn’t out of the realm of possibilities for the franchise. In Hail Hydra, a Hydra-compromised version of Venom exists, and he also turns into a vampiric symbiote who can bite women and turn them into Vipers during this comic run.

While this would account for Venom’s integration into the MCU, we trust the franchise’s creative liberties to recruit another Spider-Man (Miles) to help whatever is left of the Avengers post-Endgame to take down a Hydra Venom.

Though both Flash and the Hydra organization currently exist in the MCU, that doesn’t necessarily mean future phases would immediately weave a combat-based Venom and Miles narrative. The MCU abides by its own continuity, even if it is inspired by its comic book predecessors (at varying degrees, depending on the particular movie). Thus, the MCU could introduce an entirely new Miles-related narrative, with or without Venom.

After all, Miles can and has existed within Spider-Man media without Venom. As we’ve seen from Sony’s Venom film, Venom isn’t solely capable of evil and murder (even though they are often canon personality traits for the intergalactic, emotional support symbiote).

A Miles cameo in a Venom film

Venom isn’t a murderous villain in Sony’s Venom film. Well, he is murderous, he just fringes on anti-hero territory. The point is that he hasn’t committed any nefarious acts that haven’t saved a store owner or the world. Regardless, the space creature hasn’t interacted with any other relevant spider character in his cinematic infancy.

If Sony were to introduce a live-action version of Miles Morales into the current state and personality of the symbiote and Eddie Brock, we’d like to believe the franchise would include a heroic team-up between Venom and Miles.

Rather than Venom acting as a canon antagonist of Spider-Man (especially Miles), Venom could help Miles’ live-action incarnation fight another baddie. We aren’t sure who they could collaborate with to defeat, but it would be interesting to see Miles and Venom fight off a symbiote, say Carnage, who might return to Earth to attack Venom.

After all, Venom did betray his entire species and their body-snatchers mission to save Eddie and humankind. (More so to save Eddie. The other Earthlings were just a side effect of Venom’s heroic act.)

Spider-Verse spinoffs and sequels

We don’t want to spoil the end credit scene in Spider-Verse, so we’ll be strategically vague for a paragraph or two. The spinoffs and sequels to the impending Spider-Verse franchise are inevitable, so it’s easy to see how the Spider-Verse can intersect different spider-themed dimensions, again, in its proceeding films.

Integrating Miles Morales, Peter Parker, and Venom into the same film (within the MCU, Spider-Verse, or potential Venom franchise) unravels a lot of possibilities for Miles’ rightful place in cinema. Given the ambiguous nature of Avengers: Endgame, the rise to the MCU’s phase 4 and thereafter could involve an alternate reality or universe that would make Doctor Doom proud.

light. More. Spider-Man: Far From Home will feature a Mysterio and Spider-Man team-up

Timeline tinkering or creating a new universe entirely could intrinsically introduce another Spider-Man into the MCU, and we hope that’s Miles Morales. There’s still a lot left to explore with Miles’ powers, character development, family, and heroism and we just want to see Miles on-screen more often.
