On her way to saving her parents’ lives, Brianna (Sophie Skelton) boards a ship and crosses paths with season baddie Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers).

“Time is not a reality,” Roger (Richard Rankin) declares in the promo for this week’s Outlander. “It’s a concept, or a measure,” he adds. And, yes, in case you were wondering: he does sound like a pretentious philosophy 101 student.

It seems Roger will be questioning his preconceptions about, well, everything in “Down the Rabbit Hole” — an evocative title if there ever was one. He’s still trying to track down Brianna and it leads him to Craigh na Dun. Bree has already gone through the stones and Roger can hear the fateful buzzing. He’ll probably be trying to find 18th-century clothing before the episode ends.

Brianna, meanwhile, is well on her way to the Colonies and her parents, as Starz‘s episode description hints:

"Brianna follows in her mother’s footsteps and travels through the stones back in time to 18th century Scotland, where she struggles to make her way to the Colonies to find her parents, Jamie and Claire. Meanwhile, Roger follows Brianna into the past and embarks on a harrowing sea journey."

Even for the late 1700s, Bree’s voyage is a dangerous one. She books passage on a ship and the captain is none other than Stephen Bonnet, the highwayman who double-crossed the Frasers, stole Claire’s ring, and killed Lesley in “America the Beautiful.” If you weren’t already aware he’s a sociopath, his “I am a golden god”-esque line in the preview would’ve tipped you off: “A wise man leaves the things beyond his power to the gods, but on this ship, everything’s in my power.”

Shudder.

Oh, Bree. I know you want to save your parents from the fire that kills them — I want you to, too! — but you need to take care of yourself as well. And that means sleeping with one eye open on the Phillip Alonzo. Or at least keeping your jewelry well hidden.
