How to watch The Sound of Music this Christmas season

Maria sings about all of her favorite things, and we are alive with the sound of music as we get ready to watch The Sound of Music this Christmas season!

What are we going to do about Maria this year as we get ready to watch The Sound of Music? A classic film starring Julie Andrews, there is a strange love we all have for the film around Christmastime. (When you think about it, “My Favorite Things” has become a staple of the season…but has nothing to do with the holidays).

The movie focuses on Maria, who is a nun who moves to be the nanny to the von Trapp children. There, she ends up following in love with their father and the children, and Maria and Captain von Trapp must escape Austria during the Nazi rule of World War II.

When it comes to The Sound of Music, you have to be prepared to buckle down and really watch a movie. It is nearly a three-hour long movie. Not that it isn’t fun to watch! It’s just a pretty big time commitment — especially if you’re going to watch it while on television and thus with commercials.

Still, it is a nice movie to watch with your family and friends and sing along with. We all know the songs and to see Julie Andrews as Maria is a wonderful experience!
