After screwing up the timeline, Constantine tries to clean up his mess. Here are the details on how to watch the Legends of Tomorrow midseason finale.

The Legends may, sadly, not be participating in the annual Arrowverse crossover this year, but they’re more than capable of having wacky adventures on their own. In fact, “Elseworlds” looks downright tame compared to what Legends of Tomorrow has in store for its midseason finale.

See, Charlie was tired of being stuck in a mortal body, so she asked Constantine to reverse his spell. In order to do so, the demon hunter contrived to prevent his past self from meeting his former boyfriend Desmond, therefore preventing Desmond from being sent to hell, Constantine from joining the Legends, and Charlie from losing her shapeshifting abilities. Naturally, his scheme backfired, resulting in a butterfly effect that broke time and turned Zari into a cat.

Meanwhile, the team had to capture a homicidal, doll-possessing spirit, and there was a random yet delightful Shape of Water homage. Even by Legends standards, it was a bizarre episode.

How will Constantine redeem himself? The synopsis for this week’s episode, titled “Legends of To-Meow-Meow,” suggests the answer is: poorly. You can read the description below, courtesy of The CW:

"IT’S THE RIGHT THING TO DO — After Constantine (Matt Ryan) breaks the cardinal Legend rule, you can’t change the past, he, along with Charlie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) and Zari (Tala Ashe) try to deal with the ramifications without telling the rest of the Legends. Even though Zari encourages them to just fix the problem, Constantine and Charlie are determined to find another way, but only continue to make things worse."

Oh, Constantine and Charlie. I say this with love, but you are so, so dumb. Anyway, at least this suggests that Zari won’t have to spend too much time as a cat; as cute as cat-Zari is, human-Zari and her sarcasm is sorely needed by her companions. However they manage to fix their mistake, hopefully the three will emerge with a deeper appreciation for each other.

This should also segue into what will presumably be the season’s overarching plot: Constantine vs. Neron. I worry that another demonic villain might be too similar to season 3, but Legends of Tomorrow has proven itself creative enough that it’s worth giving them the benefit of the doubt. Surely, they have a fresh spin up their sleeves.

Ben Bray directs from a script by James Eagan and Ray Utarnachitt.
