The Year Without a Santa Claus

Notable cast: Mickey Rooney, Shirley Booth

What it’s about: This film was made in 1974 by Rankin Bass and came out as a Christmas special. It’s also based on a book.

In the film, Santa Claus doesn’t want to deliver presents anymore as he is convinced there is no Christmas spirit left in the world. But, Mrs. Claus enlists the help of some elves and a reindeer to help prove to Santa Claus that there is still good cheer in the world and that many children still believe in him. In the end, everything turns out well and Santa delivers presents to the children and learns that they appreciate him.

Why you should watch it for the holidays: If you just can’t get enough of those older Christmas classics, neither can we. That’s why we’ve included The Year Without a Santa Claus on this list. This movie is another claymation animated film that was a staple of many households around the Christmas season. This movie is a favorite because of that iconic “Heat Miser/Snow Miser” song that will 100 percent get stuck in your head for the next few weeks. We would say we are sorry about it, but not really.

This movie came out a little bit later than some of the other movies of a similar style, like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, but it’s still definitely similar to the others. This is the kind of movie that just makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

This is a great movie to enjoy watching with your entire family to feel warm and cozy during the Christmas season.
