Santa Claus Is Coming to Town

Notable cast: Fred Astaire, Mickey Rooney

What it’s about: A mailman gets letters from children all over the world asking him about the magic of Santa Claus. He answers some of these questions and tells Santa’s origin story. We learn how a baby was left to the Kringle family where he grew up and learned to make toys with them. As Kris Kringle ages, he starts delivering toys to the children of Sombertown, but the Bergermeister tries to stop him. This film is all about telling the story of how Santa became the myth and legend we know today.

Why you should watch it for the holidays: This is part of those classic stop-motion animation films from the ’60s that many of us watched while we were growing up and that our parents watched while they were growing up, too. This movie tells the story of how Santa Claus came to be. It is his origin story of sorts, and it’s a fun, feel-good movie.

Kris Kringle also deals with an evil wizard in the movie, but in the end, he is able to deliver toys to the children, and he also meets and marries the woman who becomes Mrs. Claus along the way.

This is a cute movie that people of all ages can enjoy watching. The songs are also fun, and you’ll be singing “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” and looking forward to the presents under the tree after you watch this film.
