Frosty the Snowman

Notable cast: Jackie Vernon

What it’s about: A top hat that contains magic brings a snowman to life. But an evil magician wants the magic hat back, and hot temperatures threaten to kill Frosty. With the help of some children, Frosty is able to escape to the North Pole where we will be able to live all year round.

Why you should watch it for the holidays: This is another one of those great holiday classics from the ’60s. Everybody knows the song and the story of Frosty the Snowman, and this animated classic tells the story in longer form. It also features the “Frosty the Snowman” song, so you’ll be singing about Frosty for the rest of the week after you watch this film. The movie and its songs taught a few generations of children that if they make a snowman, he might just come to life. While that isn’t necessarily true, this movie will bring you back to those days of having fun playing out in the snow as a kid.

Throughout the film, the children who made Frosty try to keep him from coming to harm and, of course, things all turn out well in the end as Frosty is able to make it to the North Pole where he can survive all year round with the cold temperatures. It’s always nice to have a happy ending.
