Rudolph’s Shiny New Year
Notable cast: Lorenzo Music
What it’s about: In this sequel to the classic Rudolph story, Rudolph becomes the hero again when he has to rescue Baby New Year to ensure that time doesn’t stand still and that New Year’s isn’t ruined for everyone.
Why you should watch it for the holidays: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (which we featured earlier in this list) is probably one of the most well-known holiday movies out there. This film plays basically every Christmas Eve, and it’s well-known and beloved despite some of its more ridiculous moments. (Why is it so sexist? Probably because it was the ’60s. But come on.) Despite the fact that it’s a little outdated, it’s hard not to love the story of adorable Rudolph as he navigated being a misfit.
If you love the original, you’re going to want to watch the sequel. While it might not be as much of a classic, it’s still a sweet little movie.
This movie is not just about Christmas; it’s also about the New Year. So if you’re in that in-between time that’s after Christmas Day but before New Year’s Day and have some time to kill, it’s the ideal time to watch Rudolph’s Shiny New Year. Many people have that week off of school and work, so you might as well still find something festive to do even if all the unwrapping of presents is over. You’ll enjoy seeing Rudolph again and see how he saves the day by rescuing Baby New Year so that time can move forward.
