Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Notable cast: Burl Ives, Billie Mae Richards
What it’s about: In case you need a refresher, this movie tells the story of Rudolph as he grows up. Even though he was bullied by the other reindeer as a child, in the end, he saves Christmas along with the help of his friends after a winter storm makes it too difficult for Santa to see without the help of Rudolph’s shiny nose.
Why you should watch it for the holidays: We are starting things off with a true classic. This is definitely one of those Christmas movies that most people have seen at one point or another. It’s a movie that always plays around the holidays, especially on Christmas Eve. While these old stop-motion animation films might seem quite outdated now, there is something so comfortable about watching them again in adulthood. You’ll be reminded of your childhood and how anxious and excited you were about getting presents under the tree from Santa Claus.
This movie is also especially fun because it has so many holiday songs. The songs from the film are the classics, from “Holly, Jolly Christmas” to that song about misfits and of course, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” You’ll be singing along and enjoying the fun memories that these songs bring to you.
People of all ages can enjoy this film, and, though you’ll probably laugh at some of the ways this show was clearly made in the ’60s, you’ll enjoy watching a Christmas classic once again.
