Arthur Christmas
Notable cast: James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, Jim Broadbent
What it’s about: Arthur Christmas is one of Santa’s sons who works in the family business. While Arthur is by no means like Santa, he happens across a present that somehow didn’t make it onto Santa’s sleigh. With the help of a few elves and his grandfather, Grand Santa, Arthur is off to deliver the present before Christmas Day — but of course, it’s no walk in the park.
Why you should watch it for the holidays: Arthur Christmas is a fairly recent holiday movie that came out in 2011. It’s always fun to see new Christmas and holiday stories told in the animated form. And, it’s always exciting to see if any of these newer movies will hold up to some of the earlier holiday classics and secure their spot as movies that have to be watched each December.
Arthur Christmas combines some of those main elements of a Santa-based animated series as it shows exciting things such as Santa’s high-tech sleigh and toy building operation in the North Pole. But, as with most holiday movies, Arthur Christmas also has a lot of heart and is about the importance of family and of giving during the holiday season.
So, if you’re in the mood to try a more recent holiday animated film that you haven’t seen before, you should give Arthur Christmas a try. It’s always a good idea to try new things and expand your repertoire of Christmas movies.
