Nia Nal reveals her powers on this week’s Supergirl episode. Culturess has compiled all the information you need on how to watch “Bunker Hill.”

Eight episodes into its fourth season, Supergirl has yet to turn in a dud.

After the destruction of “Call to Action,” last week’s hour took a more intimate approach with a trio of relationship-driven storylines. However, “Rather the Fallen Angel” proved powerful in its own way, pushing the characters in unexpected directions and allowing the actors portraying them to hit different notes.

In particular, Lena’s plot, which showed her reluctantly bonding with a subject of her Harun-El experiment, was a moving deep-dive into her motivations, bringing a character that the show has long struggled with into focus. Fans may be pleased to note that I am, at last, on board; even her relationship with James has gotten interesting.

Perhaps it’s for the best that Supergirl appears to be letting her plot, which has “tragedy” written all over it, rest for a bit. This week’s episode, titled “Bunker Hill,” shifts the spotlight to another supporting character. You can read the official synopsis below, courtesy of The CW:

"KEVIN SMITH DIRECTS; NIA BEGINS TO EMBRACE HER POWERS — Nia (Nicole Maines) has a powerful dream about Agent Liberty (Sam Witwer) but refuses to look at it as a prophetic dream and pushes it aside. After noticing something is bothering Nia, Kara (Melissa Benoist) enlists Brainy’s (Jesse Rath) help, and the two try to persuade Nia to embrace her destiny. Meanwhile, Manchester Black (guest star David Ajala) pays Ben Lockwood a menacing visit."

While I’m on the fence about them as a potential romantic pairing, I have been thoroughly enjoying the awkward/cute interactions between Nia and Brainy. Any episode that features them in a prominent capacity is sure to at least have a sense of humor.

Of course, Nia is great by herself too. Among of the show’s many shrewd decisions this season has been its willingness to draw out the reveal of Nia’s abilities. As excited as we are to see her as a superhero, it’s essential that we got to know her as a person first, and after season 3’s rather disastrous adventures with the Legion, it’s been refreshing to watch Kara interact with someone who has no connection to her as Supergirl.

And then there’s the Manchester Black subplot, which promises more of the intensity that we’ve grown accustomed to this season. For all his powers of persuasion, Ben Lockwood seems sorely outmatched in this particular standoff.

Kevin Smith directs from a script by Rob Wright and Eric Carrasco.
