Inmate dynamics shift at Slabside in a prison-centered episode of Arrow directed by James Bamford. Here’s everything you need to know.
Hallelujah! After months of dead ends and near-misses, Team Arrow finally has Ricardo Diaz in custody. It only required all of the characters’ goals to align, the cooperation of former Bratva leader Anatoly Knyazev, and a last-minute intervention by the new mystery archer, but all’s well that ends well, right?
Well, if superhero movies and TV shows have taught me anything, it’s that containing a villain isn’t the same as defeating him. From a moral and logical standpoint, Felicity undoubtedly made the right move in refraining from killing Diaz. From a narrative standpoint… it remains to be seen. Hopefully, he can stay off the board at least long enough for Curtis to celebrate his surprise two-weeks-late birthday party. (Given everything that’s going on, it’s kind of reassuring to know that Felicity still had the time and motivation to plan a party.)
The team also succeeded in another regard: thanks to Laurel’s surprising legal savvy, the federal government is launching an investigation into the treatment of inmates at Slabside. And not a moment too soon because, even though Level Two is shut down, conditions in the prison remain as abysmal as ever.
Judging by the promotional images and synopsis, the prison will be the focus of this week’s episode, titled “The Slabside Redemption” in a not-too-subtle Stephen King reference. You can read the description below, courtesy of The CW:
"Oliver (Stephen Amell) makes a choice that will affect his entire life, as well as the lives of everyone he cares about."
It’s as vague as Arrow has ever gotten, which of course makes the episode even more intriguing. Presumably, this choice is related to Stanley, whose framing of Ben Turner made Oliver realize that he isn’t as innocent as he seemed. (The fact that he was in Slabside at all should have been a clue, but his act was pretty convincing.) Or it could be related to Diaz, who Oliver doesn’t know is in custody.
Anyway, James Bamford is directing, so if nothing else, we know that we can expect some top-notch action scenes. Bamford directs from a script by Jill Blankenship and Rebecca Bellotto.
