Doctor Who season 11 episode 8 live stream: Watch online
By Lacy Baugher
The brand-new season of Doctor Who continues this Sunday. Here’s everything you need to know to watch “The Witchfinders” online and not miss a minute.
Season 11 of Doctor Who continues with a special guest star and a trip back in time to confront a particularly dark time in history.
“The Witchfinders” follows Team TARDIS to 17th-century Lancashire, where they find themselves involved in one of the most controversial things from the time period: A witch trial.
They also apparently run into King James I, as that’s who guest star Alan Cumming is playing. This isn’t that weird, actually, as King James was very interested in — and critical of — the idea of witchcraft. He even published a book of witchcraft lore prior to his ascension to the English throne, which fully endorsed the practice of witch hunting.
(Fun fact: This book, entitled Daemonologie, is said to have been one of William Shakespeare’s sources for the Weird Sisters scenes in his famous play Macbeth.)
Despite James’ general enthusiasm for witch hunting, he wasn’t as successful in this particular hobby in England as he had been in Scotland, save for a few isolated instances: One of which was the Lancashire trials in 1612.
Enter the Doctor: An outspoken woman who isn’t afraid to stand up to bullies and denounce persecution.
The latest episode trailer clearly shows a woman being dunked as a witch. How likely does it seem that Thirteen will stand by and let that pass unchallenged? And what’s going to happen after that?
