The Good Place: What will the end of season 3 have in store?
With only a handful of episodes left, The Good Place closes in on the season 3 finale. So where might these last few episodes take us?
The Good Place and its third season have been somewhat of a mixed bag compared to the first two seasons.
That’s not a bad thing. After all, this is the show that gives you expectations and then does something completely different. And what did we expect with season 2’s finale rebooting everyone back on Earth?
Everything was bound to go wrong, right? We didn’t expect Michael and Janet to be stuck on Earth, powerless. We certainly didn’t suspect Shawn and his team to build an illegal back door to Earth to come ruin Michael’s time. And we definitely didn’t expect Team Cockroach to turn into the Soul Squad and decide to try to save everyone else’s souls despite their own being doomed.
This week’s episode ended with our team fleeing into Janet’s void… which may or may not kill them. So where do we think these last few episodes will take us?
Well, firstly, we have to believe that going into Janet’s void won’t kill four of the main characters on the show. And being back in her void means that she has all of her powers and can teleport here, there, and everywhere (more or less) on the afterlife-side of things.
The next episode — airing after this week off for Thanksgiving — is simply titled “Janet(s),” sounding like we may be heading to the Janet warehouse. Or, at the very least, learning a bit more about what Janet is (not a robot, not a girl).
Michael also mentioned visiting “The Accountant” at the end of this last episode. Because the entire point system is wrong, corrupt, and honestly? No one’s probably in the Good Place. It’s not fair. We all know that life isn’t fair, but the afterlife should be… right?
We already know how on point The Good Place is with its casting, so the actual Accountant will be perfect (and not as high profile as we want). My hope is that it’s the accountant that keeps trying to hire Ben Wyatt in Parks and Recreation because that would just be too good.
After they talk to the Accountant, what’s next? Judge Gen is still after their heads, unless she’s forgotten in all of her binge-watching. Maybe at this point, she just likes the excitement of them being on the run.
Michael brings up a good point regarding the point system. Especially if he can get the Accountant to read his and Janet’s manifesto, there’s a possibility of real change coming.
But if change happens and the point system is revamped, what then? Do our four Cockroaches make it into the real Good Place? And if they do, what if it’s not anything like anyone imagined? If it’s been empty for so long, how will anyone know how to run it or what to do?
That sounds like a good premise for season 4.
