Outlander season 4 episode 3 live stream: Watch online
Not Claire and Not Jamie — ahem, Brianna and Roger — make their grand return to Outlander in “The False Bride.”
Sassenachs, my favorite Outlander characters are finally coming back! No, not Murtagh or Jenny, you wee fools: Brianna and Roger!
What, you’re not buying it? Alright, fine. I admit that neither Sophie Skelton nor Richard Rankin’s character does it for me, but they’re a part of this show’s world, so here we are. Last time we saw these two boring lovebirds they were flirting over A Charlie Brown Christmas. But it appears in this week’s episode, “The False Bride,” the pair will make their love official by traveling together.
Check out the episode synopsis, per Starz:
"Jamie and Claire head into the wilderness, in search of a place to call home, but their adventure takes a dark turn when a fierce storm separates them. In the 20th century, Roger and Brianna’s relationship heats up during a romantic road trip, but once they get down to brass tacks, both realize that they aren’t on the same page."
Uh oh. Sounds as if Bree’s romance — like her mother’s before her — is too epic to be easy. As for Roger, he needs to listen to his inner Jamie Fraser and accept that the woman in his life will be just as strong as he, if not stronger.
Meanwhile, Claire and Jamie apparently won’t be overseeing River Run after all. They’re heading west to find their own home and John Quincy Myers (Kyle Rees), whom I privately think of as Colonial Paul Bunyan, is leading them. Unfortunately, despite his wilderness smarts, he can’t offer complete protection. Claire gets lost during a storm and encounters an intimidating Native American.
I’m really, really pulling for this character to not be the offensive stereotype the promo suggests:
I thought the show’s latest foray into racial politics was well-done, but my take was far from universal. The show is walking on thin ice regarding its characters of color. It would be very disappointing if the Native American man Claire meets was more of a symbol or plot device than an actual person. Let’s hope Outlander rises to the occasion.
