The next episode of Supernatural Season 14 will air tonight. The episode is called “Optimism,” and it looks as though the Winchesters will continue to team up with their extended hunting family.

This time they’re joining forces with Charlie and Jack.

The summary from The CW for “Optimism” is below:

"WHAT WE DO FOR LOVE – Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Charlie (guest star Felicia Day) team up to get to the bottom of a string of random disappearances. Meanwhile, Jack (Alexander Calvert) believes that he has found a case and convinces Dean (Jensen Ackles) to partner-up with him on the hunt."

The summary for tonight’s episode suggests that the boys could be investigating two separate cases of monsters, with Sam joining forces with Charlie on a case. This makes sense because Sam and Charlie have always been similar in terms of their calm and objective approach to hunting, their love for extensive research and study, and their knowledge of computer hacking. It’s natural that these two characters would team up on a hunt, and it looks as though Dean is left to be persuaded by Jack to potentially investigate a different case all together.

Jack has struggled to come to terms with his life as a human now that his grace and angelic powers have gone, and he has thrown himself headfirst into hunting, wanting to continue helping people and with no other way he knows how. Jack must look up to Dean because the older Winchester has never had any powers or advantages in his life, and therefore all his skills and strengths have been gained and learned through experience. It’s likely that Jack will want to spend as much time as possible training and learning from Dean’s hunting expertise.

Now that Jack is less useful than before, will Dean find it difficult to hunt with him? With no powers to protect himself, Dean will have to concentrate on protecting Jack as well as killing the monster, something that might cause friction or a strain on the relationship between them. Jack might even hinder the success of the hunt, becoming a burden for Dean.
