Now that we know how the Gargoyle King came to Riverdale, we’re left to see how this generation is going to defeat it. Because you know they will. They are a bunch of super sleuthing, mystery solvers that are seemingly fearless, with a completely unearned sense of boldness and wisdom.

Jughead is taking his Hardy Boy role too far, and is (as it seems) getting sucked into the game that “messes with your head.” Of course, it’s left up to Betty to be the voice of reason and to do the practical matters of investigating.

Meanwhile, Veronica is skulking around in a blond wig, visiting Archie in prison where he is still, quite literally, having to fight for his life. Although it’s unclear how helpful Archie would be in this whole Gargoyle King mystery (if history is any indication, not very), but at least he could use his brawn for good, again.

Finally, Riverdale is once again finding it’s footing, striking this unique balance between absolutely compelling and completely bonkers. This is the sweet spot.
