Empire season 5 episode 7 live stream: Watch online

In the penultimate episode before Empire’s mid-season finale, secrets don’t stay hidden for long and winter, or should I say Wynter, is coming.

In “Treasons, Stratagems and Spoils” we see the world the Lyons are creating with their new management firm slowly start to unravel. This week’s synopsis reads:

"In an effort to bridge the gap between Lyon Family Management and Empire, Lucious must play nice with Jeff Kingsley, so that the two companies can get girl group TBD back on the map. Meanwhile, Jamal grows frustrated with Cookie when she tries to steal his London artist, Wynter (guest star Joss Stone), out from under him, Andre works with the mother of one of his old inmates to help free her innocent son and Cookie realizes her sister is in danger."

Probably the most interesting element to come in this episode will be a deeper look into why Jeff Kingsley is so bent on taking down Lucious. Scenes from the preview show that Jeff’s connection to Lucious is more personal than we originally thought.

We see him talking to a comatose woman, vowing to make Lucious pay for what he did to her. We can only assume that this person is someone very close to Kingsley, who more than likely was a casualty of Lucious’ ruthlessness either as the head of Empire, or maybe even back during his days running the streets of Philadelphia.

Elsewhere, we see someone being confronted by Cookie for keeping a secret and then later, a frightened Cookie saying “calm down baby, please” to an unseen person — it could be Lucious, it could be one of the boys, at this point who knows?

The final scene of the previews shows Cookie’s face, bruised and battered as an offscreen Lucious forebodingly says, “I trusted you.” Who did Lucious trust, and what did he trust them with?

I won’t bother making predictions this time around, as I’ve learned that Empire promos can be misleading. It’s also worth noting that even though we only have two episodes left, we’re only halfway through the whole fifth season, which means we still may not learn who’s in the casket, why the FBI is investigating the Lyons and what Lucious did to Kingsley until Spring 2019.
