With just one more episode to go until the mid-season finale, what reveals will How to Get Away with Murder have in store this week?
“I Got Played,” declares this week’s episode of How to Get Away with Murder. Who exactly will be played? Well, that, as always, is a mystery.
Fortunately, we’re here to watch it, and we’re here to tell you where to watch it.
ABC has the full synopsis:
"Connor and Oliver attempt to secure a church for their wedding to appease their moms. Meanwhile, Annalise and Nate continue their quest for justice in the face of endless obstacles and grave circumstances, and Annalise begins to doubt the governor’s dedication to her cause."
See, the governor has been shady from the word go, but any excuse to get Laura Innes back on our screens, acting alongside Viola Davis, is probably not the worst excuse in the world. To be fair, it’s clear that she’s going to be a major player going forward. With DA Denver gone and replaced by DA Miller, it’s no surprise that Annalise would work her way up to someone a bit more … powerful after literally taking her case to the Supreme Court last season. Governor Birkhead raises the stakes while still being someone who can reasonably meet with Annalise often.
As for Connor and Oliver, just bring on all of Oliver’s mom, who is tough, loving, and basically one of my favorite additions this season. Connor’s mom, we could take or leave, but that seems to be the point considering what she gets up to in the flash-forward. Whether or not the church will be secure is unclear. It’s not uncommon to go somewhere else for the reception, and Oliver and Connor are clearly at the reception in the flash-forward. (Hey, there’s a DJ there and everything.)
Meanwhile, how can Nate help Annalise now? Nate Sr. is dead, even before he could get his transfer to a mental health facility. Obviously, they’re going to band together and find out what exactly happened. Perhaps that’s why the governor starts to become shady to Annalise (or, as the case may be, shadier, since she doesn’t trust Birkhead anyway). Speaking of, that’s probably Annalise who says the line to name the episode.
Expect that the case of the week will take a back seat if we get one this week at all — much like last week’s episode, where there really wasn’t much time dedicated to it, and what we did see was mostly just character work for Laurel and Michaela (with bonus Gabriel for reasons unbeknownst to this writer).
