Supergirl season 4 episode 4 live stream: Watch online
By Amy Woolsey
This week’s Supergirl leaves Agent Liberty behind to introduce Manchester Black. Here’s all the information you need to catch the episode.
It’s not criticism to say the past couple episodes of Supergirl have been a challenge to watch. In “Fallout,” we saw how National City reacted to the revelation that the president of the United States is an alien, and suffice it to say, tensions ran high. Then, last week’s ironically titled “Man of Steel” explored Agent Liberty’s anti-alien stance, chronicling his descent into extremism in painstaking detail.
So, maybe now is a good time for the show to take a breather. That seems to be the idea for this week’s episode, titled “Ahimsa” after a Sanskrit term that roughly translates to “not to injure.” In Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, it refers to the tenet of nonviolence toward living things. In Supergirl, it no doubt refers to J’onn’s ongoing mission of protecting aliens peacefully. Based on the episode synopsis, though, his mission isn’t going too well.
You can read the synopsis below:
"J’ONN MEETS MANCHESTER BLACK — When Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) needs help, Alex (Chyler Leigh) asks Lena (Katie McGrath) and Brainiac (Jesse Rath) to team up. Meanwhile, J’onn (David Harewood) questions his decision to quit the DEO. However, after running into Manchester Black (guest star David Ajala), he realizes there are a lot of ways to help his fellow aliens during this tumultuous time."
In DC Comics, Manchester Black originated as the leader of a crime-fighting team called The Elite, which was known for its brutal tactics. Subsequent issues have rebooted him as an outright villain, pitting him against the Teen Titans and Superman. Judging by the description released along with Ajala’s casting, Supergirl will take the character in a different direction while keeping his essence as an antihero intact. Charming yet ruthless, he sounds like the polar opposite of J’onn, whose stern demeanor belies his noble intentions.
Speaking of mismatched pairings, this will be the first time we see Lena and Brainiac interact at length. Their banter should be interesting, to say the least.
The episode is directed by Armen V. Kervorkian from a teleplay by Katie Rose Rogers and Jess Kardos and a story by Eric Carrasco.
