Empire season 5 episode 5 live stream: Watch online

Tensions boil over in more ways than one on the latest episode of Empire. Will we see the Lyons roar or shrink off with their tails between their legs?
Episode 5 of “Empire” season 5 is titled “The Depth of Grief.” Given how spot-on this season’s episode titles have been, we can only guess who’ll be grieving as the whole family continues to deal with trauma and shake-ups.
SpoilerTV notes that in this episode, “Lucious and Cookie prep their new artist Devon (guest star Mario) for a premiere listening party, but worry he may not be ready for that kind of pressure. Hakeem is determined to convince Tiana that he’s matured, but she has a hard time letting go of everything they’ve struggled through the past couple years. Meanwhile, Cookie becomes concerned about Jamal”
The episode preview begins with Andre throwing his phone down after a business call that doesn’t go well.
Despite signing velvet-voiced Devon in “Love All, Trust a Few,” the Lyons are still having trouble getting Lyon Family Management off the ground. In one clip from the preview, Cookie comments that “Lyon Family Management is going to be dead before it even started.” Not the most optimistic outlook, Cook.
Jamal continues his search for Kai, whose disappearance is now all over the news. Heartbroken, Jamal says he can’t imagine his life without Kai.
Hakeem also loses his temper with Blake, punching him square in the face in one of the last clips of the preview. My guess is that this will have more to do with Blake moving in on Tiana and his family than the song Hakeem gave him. Hakeem descends into his drinking, gun toting ways as Cookie vows not to watch her son self-destruct. If ‘Keem’s trying to show Tiana he’s changed, this is absolutely not the way to do it. Hakeem hasn’t processed any of the things he’s gone through in the last few years. His anger, grief, and desperation have turned him from a hotheaded kid into a ticking time bomb, and it’s only a matter of time before it explodes.
Finally we see Lucious, throwing up his hands and saying there’s nothing they can do, to which Cookie responds, “ Who am I talking to? Is this Lucious or is this Dwight?”
This season has placed a larger amount of focus on the internal development of Andre, Jamal, and Hakeem. We’ve seen how they processed their family’s loss of Empire and how they’re trying to make progress in their own individual lives. All of them are cracking under the pressure of trying to rebuild or maintain their lives (Andre after prison, Hakeem after the shooting, and Jamal after Tori’s death), and we may see one of them pay the ultimate price for not being able to handle the heat that comes with being a Lyon.
