Dancing with the Stars week 6 live stream: Watch online
Will couples be able to scare up good scores on this season’s Halloween Night of Dancing with the Stars? Here’s what to expect.
At this point, Dancing with the Stars has run for so many seasons that it’s hard not to repeat good songs for Halloween night. More accurately, the show also has to dig deeply for songs that are vaguely related to Halloween. (This isn’t to say that the show needs to end anytime soon, but it’s just a thought.)
That all being said, there are some good songs in tonight’s lineup, to go along with some particularly good dance choices (and some spectacularly bad ones).
ABC’s synopsis has the dance card looking like this tonight:
Argentine tango
"Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess: “Mr. Sandman,” SYMLJoe Amabile and Jenna Johnson, “El Tango de Roxanne,” Moulin Rouge"
See what we mean about “spectacularly bad” choices? The best Argentine tangos have plenty of seduction about them, and Bobby Bones, though he has been able to calm things down a bit, might not have it in him for this kind of performance. The less we say about Joe Amabile, the better, we think.
Contemporary
"Milo Manheim and Witney Carson: “Toxic,” by 2WEI"
Here’s the potential for something seriously spooky. So often, contemporary dances go for the emotional. “Toxic” could easily end up turning into something creepy and wonderful instead. Witney Carson certainly has the capacity to choreograph something for Milo Manheim and herself that will play to their strengths.
Jazz
"Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten: “Candyman,” Christina Aguilera"
“Candyman” definitely got chosen just because it is related to candy and thus tangentially Halloween in theme. (There’s also a mention of a Spider Club. Expect that one to pop up as well.)
Jive
"Juan Pablo Di Pace and Cheryl Burke: “Dead Man’s Party,” Atwater Men’s Club"
See? “Dead Man’s Party” is pretty clearly Halloween, and it has a great vibe to it that should let him show off some of his sharp footwork. It’s perhaps a little faster than even his samba, but he’ll hopefully adapt well.
Paso doblé
"John Schneider and Emma Slater: “Main Titles,” Beetlejuice"
There really haven’t been many pasos this season. There’s a certain gravitas required to it, and the song might just change the character of the dance. It is, after all, Beetlejuice. Serious movie, it is not.
Salsa
"DeMarcus Ware and Lindsay Arnold: “Under Your Spell,” Leo Soul"
Salsa is a particularly difficult dance, and DeMarcus Ware hasn’t necessarily shown that he’s quite capable of handling the more complex styles just yet. Hopefully the song — or the magic of the night — brings a little something out in him.
Tango
"Evanna Lynch and Keo Motsepe: “Disturbia,” RihannaMary Lou Retton and Sasha Farber: “Shame,” Elle King"
One of these songs is not like the others, although “Shame” at least mentions a “devil woman.” However, if Keo Motsepe can put together something eerily good to a song like “Disturbia,” with its driving beat, then Evanna Lynch’s scores might rise up once again.
