Poldark season 4 episode 5 live stream: Watch online
With Ross and Demelza separated again, will Poldark lose some of the momentum it had built up? We’ll have to wait and see.
It’s back to London for Ross on this week’s episode of Poldark. Although the series got to let him and Demelza hash out more of their marriage problems for a little while, he’s still a member of Parliament, and he does have to serve.
That means that one of the primary relationships on display will be that between Ross and George, antagonistic though it may be, especially since the latter has already declared that his sole mission upon getting back into Parliament is basically blocking Ross from doing anything in particular.
PBS’ pressroom puts it this way:
"To his frustration, Ross faces successive failures in Westminster and he is advised to take a slyer approach. Back in Cornwall, Demelza continues her matchmaking efforts."
The thing is this: Ross does not do subtlety at all. It’s practically his defining trait, aside from his love for Demelza and generally being terrible at showing it in a healthy way. He’s also not good at being a politician yet, although his speechmaking skills are, of course, pretty great. As it stands, George is better at working his way around things than Ross is, so we can assume that he’ll be the cause of these things in Parliament. (He also has a new, equally opportunistic ally in Monk Adderley.)
Meanwhile, Drake and Rosina will be mushed together yet again thanks to Demelza. While it’s a nice sentiment, it’s also painfully awkward and drags things down a little. After an episode that showed that other characters and members of the cast can hold things together, it’s a shame that this synopsis only focuses on Ross and Demelza.
Then again, there’s a possibility that Caroline might actually help Ross with his political issues. After all, her work with Demelza basically got him his seat in the first place, and her money still talks even though she’s married a country doctor. The question is whether or not she’ll want to help, especially since she’s in mourning for her child still. Moreover, helping Ross might not be something she can really do. Convincing two powerful men in the country is one thing; doing it in London, the city that’s the real seat of these men’s power? That’s another thing altogether.
But Ross does have a friend in Caroline all the same.
