This week’s Halloween-themed episode of Superstore gets ugly when a costume competition goes off the rails.

Cloud 9 takes part in a cutthroat costume competition on this week’s Superstore.

The show loves any chance to celebrate Halloween, and normally the costumes the employees are forced to wear are the butt of the joke. But this year, Superstore’s kicking things up a notch by hosting a full-blown costume competition. Normally, this kind of thing wouldn’t peak the interest of the store, but when a grand prize of one free vacation day is announced, things get nasty and quick.

A heavily pregnant Amy wants to win a day off to prepare for the birth of her baby, but she’s up against a determined Mateo, who keeps changing his outfits, donning more elaborate looks to one-up his boss. Amy can’t be bothered with dressing up too much, so she sets out to sabotage other peoples’ costumes by accusing them of cultural appropriation. Oh, Amy. You think PC culture will stop Mateo from mopping the floor with your Mario Kart impression? Think again, honey.

Meanwhile, Jonah and Garrett are stuck in a battle of their own when both men take issue with the store’s soundtrack. Apparently, a Halloween-themed tune playing on a loop, one that mentions Dracula surfing and wearing sunscreen, just isn’t funny after the 40th listen.

Glenn’s dealing with his own problems this episode, but they’ve got nothing to do with the spooky holiday. After corporate announces a new automated-kind of system for storing shopping carts, Glenn takes issue with the technology. The guy’s old-school, so it makes sense he’d imagine the carts are now following him and trying to kill him, right?
