How to Get Away with Murder is promising a big reveal tonight if the title of the episode is any indication. What does “It’s Her Kid” have in store?
How to Get Away with Murder has a chance to get back on track this week after an episode that seemed a little boring in comparison to the first two of season 5. Yes, even with the possibility that Oliver is dead or dying in the flash-forward.
Although the synopsis isn’t the most promising in the world, the title of the episode does seem to show that we’ll get something of a breakthrough in at least one ongoing storyline in the season. “It’s Her Kid” sounds like a Frank line, truth be told, and Frank has spent most of the season so far looking into Gabriel Maddox, with a possibly parallel storyline happening with Nate as he looks into whether or not Bonnie’s child is still alive (the answer so far is “maybe,” with Bonnie’s sister apparently having kidnapped the baby).
Of course, How to Get Away with Murder does love its twists. Let’s not deny that. There’s a twist basically waiting to happen here. Maybe Bonnie’s kid isn’t Gabriel after all! Maybe it’s Oliver or something like that.
Speaking of the synopsis, here it is, via ABC itself:
"Annalise and Nate look to get Nate’s dad a psych evaluation so that they can have his murder case retried under an insanity plea. Meanwhile, Michaela works overtime to convince Tegan to give her a chance to earn her trust back, and Bonnie gets an offer she mulls over."
Look, Michaela and Tegan still have a Bonnie and Annalise feeling about them, in that there are almost romantic overtones to how they speak to each other rather than actual professional terms. Now, to be fair, there are also much neater parallels, because it’s clear that Michaela looks up to Tegan and wants to be here even though she can’t for a mix of reasons, like just not being Tegan and having Tegan’s life experiences.
It’s good to see that Annalise isn’t abandoning her hope of fixing things in her class-action lawsuit, either. As for Bonnie, it’s hard to see what this offer is beyond maybe moving in with the DA or otherwise getting an offer to leave the DA’s office for a better job (at Caplan and Gold, possibly).
