10 of the scariest moments in The Haunting of Hill House

In the Nell-centric episode, there are certainly some creepy moments, but we admit to having jumped when she is in the hotel hallway getting water. The flickering lights as she is in the dead-end hall are ominous enough. But as she walks, seeing the lights go out in front of her and then behind her are a clear sign that something is coming. (Boy, were we right!)

But we definitely don’t think we were alone in jumping out of our seats when the Bent-Neck Lady suddenly comes dropping from the ceiling as if it had been hanged there. While there may not have been anyone physically there (yes, we know it is a ghost), we can’t help but understand why Nell screams in fear. Not only is it a shocking moment, but in her case a ghostly body just falls in front of her eyes, dangling there as if hanging from the rafters.

And while it’s not necessarily obvious from the brief moment we see the body, it is certainly the Bent-Neck Lady who has been haunting Nell throughout the first few episodes, and especially this particular episode. Unfortunately, it’s also a sign of what is about to come (and since we already know Nell is dead at this point, but not what happened, we can only imagine what this means for her).
