It’s time for Ross Poldark to get to work in his new position, but that doesn’t mean that things are calming down back in Cornwall.

Things haven’t stayed stagnant for very long on Poldark this season. Hugh has already passed away, and Ross has already stood for the election that will now send him to Parliament. That means that this week’s episode has a lot to cover — including how Ross handles being an actual politician after spending most of the past three seasons working outside the system instead of within it.

All the same, there are other characters in this show than just the men, although most of the women don’t merit mentions in this week’s synopsis.

Here it is, via PBS’ pressroom:

"Ross finds notoriety in London; the Enyses’ daughter is born; George make a dangerous new friend."

Caroline’s already going to have her baby? That’s quick, even for this show. We’re excited to see how they are as parents, although the longer description on that same page reveals that things might not go so smoothly.

As for Ross himself, the longer description also says that Geoffrey Charles is back and will meet up with his older relative again. Since he’s spent a lot of time away from Cornwall, he may have grown into more of a radical than perhaps his stepfather would like, and since Ross is very much not like George Warleggan, he’ll probably like the person Geoffrey has become. (Hopefully, anyway. More Poldark family drama would feel like too much at this point.)

Speaking of George, though, he really doesn’t need a “dangerous new friend.” He’s plenty dangerous on his own, particularly when he’s been scorned in losing the election to go back to Parliament. However, there’s no mention of Elizabeth here, and she appears to take the loss just as seriously in last week’s episode. We’re left wondering what steps and measures she might take to assist her husband.

The question also is: will Geoffrey Charles tell his mother about seeing Ross again, or have they grown apart, too? It’s really unclear at this point how much time he may have spent with her in the ensuing years, and though they used to be close, never doubt a teenager’s ability to resent their parents. It’s legendary.
