Empire season 5 episode 2 live stream: Watch online

The second episode of Empire season 5 shows the Lyons fighting for what’s theirs with all of their blood, sweat, and tears.

The preview for this week’s episode of Empire almost seems to be a montage of different scenes that appear to be from the whole season, rather than just “Pay for Their Presumptions,” this week’s episode.

Lucious publicly admits that the Lyons are broke and the Empire they know and love is gone. We see Andre in prison as well as the rest Lyons working to rebuild an all-new record company, presumably with newfound star Treasure as its anchor.

There are also a few other standout scenes in this preview. Most notably, there’s Andre in a prison yard fight, and Lucious staring in the mirror with blood seeping out of his side. This preview also confirms that the Lyons (and we viewers) haven’t seen the last of Phylicia Rashad’s high-class villainess turned vengeful prison inmate, Diana DuBois. The make-up free, un-coiffed Mrs. DuBois forebodingly states that the Lyons need to learn what it’s like to lose one of their own.

The final scene in the preview shows a funeral, with the same white casket from the season premiere. Becky tells a tearful Lucious that he couldn’t have known. But what Lucious couldn’t have known remains a question to be answered.

It’s worth noting that Jamal is pretty noticeably absent from the majority, if not all of this preview (save for two quick flashes). I’m not sure that that’s a sign that he’s the person who dies, but it also might explain Lucious’ heartbreak (though considering Becky and Jamal were best friends Becky didn’t quite seem broken up enough for it to be Jamal). Jamal is a truly important character, so if he is meant to be the person who dies this season, I’m certain the showrunners won’t take it lightly. I hope I’m wrong because it would break my heart to say goodbye to Jamal, but given his sparse appearance in the previews, it’s a definite possibility.

But we still have a whole season to find out who dies, so let’s enjoy the time we have with all of our favorite characters, shall we?
