Demi Lovato worried her family, friends, and fans this summer when she overdosed, and now her sister is sharing how the songstress is recovering.

Ever since Demi Lovato overdosed at her home in the Hollywood Hills in late July, fans have joined her family and friends in hopes that she would focus on recovery. Now her half-sister, 16-year-old Madison De La Garza, has provided an update, reported People.

Demi Lovato working really hard on her sobriety

Madison revealed on the Millenial Hollywood podcast that her older sister is truly making an effort to focus on recovery.

“She’s working really hard on her sobriety, and we’re all so incredibly proud of her,” said the teenager of Lovato. “It’s been crazy for our family.”

But although Demi’s overdose has “been a lot” for the family to manage, Madison also said that those who are close to Lovato “always come out on the other side a hundred times stronger than before.”

Demi’s and Madison’s mother, Dianna De La Garza, has authored a new memoir, Falling With Wings, which shows that strong bond.

“We’ve been through a lot together, and every single time — I mean if you read my mom’s book, you would know — every time we go through something, we [emerge stronger,]” emphasized Lovato’s young sister. “So, we’ve just been so thankful for everything — for the little things.”

What does the future hold for Demi Lovato?

After Demi finishes her current in-patient treatment program, De La Garza looks forward to doing “so many little things” with Lovato. The agenda includes a visit to the singer’s favorite frozen yogurt shop.

“It sounds so small, but [I want to] go to Menchie’s,” De La Garza said. “Honestly, I’m more of a Pinkberry person, but she likes Menchie’s. And so we usually go there.”

Visiting a frozen yogurt store with her little sister will be a dramatic contrast to what occurred in Demi’s life after that terrifying July 24 incident. Lovato was hospitalized for almost two weeks prior to heading to an in-patient facility treatment in early August.

“She understands the severity of her overdose and the recovery has been very challenging for her,” an insider shared with People after Demi’s overdose.

The source emphasized that Lovato wants to be sober and get help. Although Demi is aware that “it will take a lot of work and commitment to stay healthy, [sobriety] is what she wants.”
