Dancing with the Stars week 2 episode 1 live stream: Watch online
New York City will inspire the couples on Dancing with the Stars tonight, but will the lights shine bright, or will the city end up failing some?
The themes have already started, and it’s only week 2 of Dancing with the Stars‘ 27th season. As revealed during last week’s double-night premiere, this week will also see two episodes, each taking nods from one city. While Las Vegas has been on display before, New York City isn’t quite as common as an inspiration for a show that quite literally films on the opposite end of the country.
Nevertheless, it’s NYC night on tonight’s episode. This time around, ABC made sure to clarify that this episode won’t have an elimination. It’ll be saved for Tuesday night instead.
That being said, let’s get into the dance styles for tonight:
Argentine tango
"Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten: “Swan Lake,” Ray Chew LiveTinashe and Brandon Armstrong: “New Dorp. New York,” SBTRKT featuring Ezra Koenig"
Going by last week’s scores and our own power rankings, this is instantly the most competitive style of the night. Tinashe posted a tie for the highest score of last week, while Alexis Ren surprised in her opening jive.
Cha cha
"Danelle Umstead and Artem Chigvintsev: “Welcome to New York,” Taylor SwiftNancy McKeon and Val Chmerkovskiy: “Uptown Girl,” Billy Joel"
“Uptown Girl” is the better song, and Nancy McKeon took a big step up from her first dance to her second dance already. Can Danelle Umstead do the same?
Charleston
"John Schneider and Emma Slater: “New York’s My Home,” Sammy Davis Jr.Milo Manheim and Witney Carson: “Living in New York City,” Robin Thicke"
Charleston may be the perfect dance for Milo Manheim, assuming that he can contain his energy to the dance steps.
Foxtrot
"Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess: “Theme from New York, New York,” Frank SinatraDeMarcus Ware and Lindsay Arnold: “Boy from New York City,” The Manhattan TransferJoe Amabile and Jenna Johnson: “New York State of Mind,”Matt Beilis"
This is kind of unfair to Joe Amabile and Bobby Bones. It’s only kind of unfair because DeMarcus Ware is doing his first ballroom dance; he was doing cha cha last week.
Quickstep
"Juan Pablo Di Pace and Cheryl Burke: “42nd Street,” Cherry Poppin’ Daddies"
See above about DeMarcus Ware and switching between Latin and ballroom.
Samba
"Evanna Lynch and Keo Motsepe: “Can’t Touch It” by Ricki-Lee"
This could be interesting.
Waltz
"Mary Lou Retton and Sasha Farber: “A Natural Woman,” live performance by Sarah Bockel from the Broadway show Beautiful: The Carole King Musical"
Oh, come on. This is rather unfair on a number of levels, not in the least of which in that no one else is getting a special artist brought in, but we’re sure it’ll be lovely all the same.
